A note on sources
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) publishes NEET PG notices and bulletins on natboard.edu.in. We could read the NBEMS eligibility page and the NEET PG 2025 Information Bulletin directly. We could not retrieve the 2026 bulletin.
So on these pages:
- Facts from NBEMS or the 2025 bulletin are stated plainly.
- 2026 figures that come only from news reports are named as such, with the outlet.
- Anything we could not confirm is left out.
Before you rely on a number, check the latest bulletin on natboard.edu.in.
Who conducts NEET PG?
NBEMS, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences. It conducts the exam once a year as a computer-based test, held on a single day.
What does the NEET PG paper look like?
The latest official pattern we have read is from the NEET PG 2025 bulletin:
| Item | NEET PG 2025 (official) |
|---|---|
| Questions | 200 MCQs |
| Total marks | 800 |
| Duration | 3 hours 30 minutes |
| Sections | 5 time-bound sections (A to E), 40 questions and 42 minutes each |
| Going back | Not allowed once a section’s time ends |
For 2026, Medical Dialogues reported, quoting the 2026 bulletin, that the paper had 180 MCQs with four options, in English only. Careers360 reported results out of 720. The section structure for 2026 is not confirmed. More on the exam pattern page.
Is there negative marking in NEET PG?
Yes. Under the 2025 bulletin:
| Response | Marks |
|---|---|
| Correct | +4 |
| Incorrect | −1 |
| Not attempted | 0 |
That is 25% negative marking. News reports say it was unchanged for 2026.
When is NEET PG 2027?
Not announced. As of 9 October 2026 we have not found any NBEMS notice for NEET PG 2027. We will not guess a date.
For reference, News On AIR reported that NEET PG 2026 was held on 30 August 2026, with the result declared on 24 September 2026. The important dates page has the reported 2026 timeline.
Who can take NEET PG?
According to NBEMS, you need:
- an MBBS degree, or a provisional pass certificate, recognised under the NMC Act
- permanent or provisional registration with the NMC or a State Medical Council
- one year of internship completed by the cut-off date set for that year’s exam
For NEET PG 2025 the internship cut-off was 31 July 2025. Details are on the eligibility page.
What is the NEET PG syllabus?
The 2025 bulletin says the exam covers the subject and knowledge areas in the NMC’s Graduate Medical Education Regulations. In plain terms, the whole MBBS course: pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical subjects. See the syllabus page.
What score do you need to qualify?
The qualifying percentiles in the 2025 bulletin are:
| Category | Qualifying percentile |
|---|---|
| General / EWS | 50th |
| General-PwD | 45th |
| SC / ST / OBC (including PwD) | 40th |
Careers360 reported the NEET PG 2026 cutoff scores as 262, 244 and 226 out of 720 for these groups. NBEMS’s own result notice should be treated as final. See the cutoff page.
How should you prepare?
NEET PG covers every MBBS subject in one sitting, under time-locked sections and negative marking. Two things matter most: steady revision across all subjects, and accuracy under time pressure. The preparation strategy sets out a plan.
Are TestGuru NEET PG mock tests open?
Not yet. TestGuru’s mock tests are live for JEE Main only. NEET PG is on a waitlist.
When they open, each test will follow the current NEET PG pattern, and the report will name the idea behind each wrong answer and build a practice set from your own mistakes. More on the NEET PG mock tests page.
TestGuru is not affiliated with NBEMS or the NMC. Always confirm dates and rules on natboard.edu.in.
